TRINIDAD, Colo. -- The McCook Community College softball team split a doubleheader last Saturday at Trinidad Junior College.

The Indians lost the first game 5-4 and won the second game 2-1.

Maegan Peterson was the losing pitcher in the opener and the winner in the nightcap. Her season record is 1-7. In 14 innings, she allowed six runs (four earned) on 12 hits, walked four and struck out four.

Steph Hansen had a two-run double in the opener. Peterson doubled and Felica Wilkens added a RBI single in the second game.

"Maegan Peterson stepped up and threw two nice games," said MCC softball coach Scott Wacker. "Our defense played pretty well, but our hitting wasn't very good. We only managed eight hits on the day and struck out 14 times. We need to give our pitchers more run support than that."

MCC has a 4-12 overall record and a 1-7 mark in Region IX play.

The Indians will compete in the Colby (Kan.) Tournament Saturday and Sunday. A doubleheader against Arapahoe Junior College at Littleton, Colo., earlier this week will be rescheduled.
