COLBY, Kan. -- Idella Mae Curry, 87, died Thursday (March 3, 2005) at Lantern Park Manor in Colby, Kan.
She was born April 24, 1917, to Wiley Elmer Purcell and Mary Etta Huston in Haswell County, Colo. She graduated from Levant High School in 1935 and went to beauty school in Kansas City.
While in Kansas City, she worked for a candy factory. In 1936, she opened her own beauty shop in Kansas City and worked there for a year before she sold the shop and moved back to her parents' farm.
In 1942, she married Everett O. Curry in Goodland, Kan. In 1945, they purchased her father's farm and built their own farm. She was a farm wife for 58 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett Curry in 1999; five brothers, Lawrence, Floyd, Bill, Charlie and Leslie; and one sister, Pearl.
Survivors include her son, Gary and wife, Virginia of Levant; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Williams Funeral Chapel in Atwood with the Rev. Dorine Chambers officiating. Interment will be in Atwood Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday and Monday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
