ATWOOD -- Joseph W. Sis, 93, died Sunday (Feb. 27, 2005) at Atwood Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
He was born Aug. 10, 1911, to Frank W. and Mary A. (Horinek) Sis in Rawlins County. He attended grade school and then helped his parents on the farm until he joined the Army.
He was in the CC Camp and helped construct Lake Atwood and other projects.
He managed the Beardsley elevator from 1968 to 1978. He also drove the Atwood school bus for many years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 3033, FCSLA (formerly Catholic Workan), and the American Legion Sam Hubbard Post No. 46 of Atwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ralph, Charles, Tony and Frank; and sister, Mary.
Survivors include two sisters, Agnes Turner of Odessa, Wash., and Ann Sutton of Atwood.
Mass of Christian burial was today at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery in rural Atwood. Military honors were presented by the American Legion, Sam Hubbard Post No. 46 of Atwood.
Memorials may be given to the Atwood Knights of Columbus Endowment Fund.
