Rawlins County girls drop St. Francis

ST. FRANCIS -- The Rawlins County-Atwood girls basketball team traveled to St. Francis on Tuesday and won 63-41.

Rawlins County had two strong offensive quarters, scoring 21 in the first and 18 in the third.

Ariel Dunker led Rawlins County in scoring with 18, followed by Emily Timm and Bethany Holste with 12 and Simone Cahoj added 11.

St. Francis was led in scoring by Amy Grace with 14.

Rawlins County and St. Francis will begin Kansas Class 2A postseason tournament play Monday at the Leoti-Wichita County sub-state.

SUTHERLAND -- Wallace, the No. 1 seed in the Nebraska boys Class D2-10 sub-district basketball tournament at Sutherland, rolled past Wheatland Tuesday 74-60 in the semifinals.

Wallace forced 20 turnovers and knocked down nine 3-pointers.

Wallace guard Andy Coppersmith fired in 4-of-6 3-pointers and finished with 25 points.

Andy Barner added 19 points and Mark Christensen tallied 14.

Four Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Mark Johnson with 16 points.

Jason Day scored 14 points. Sean Hanson and Anthony Ross each scored 13.

This combination proved to be enough for Wallace to get the victory and move on to the subdistrict finals. The Wildcats will play Hayes Center at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
