HASTINGS -- John Jefferson Fellers, 81, died Thursday (Feb. 17, 2005) at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

He was born March 25, 1923, to Roy Oscar and Marie Ruth (Thacker) Fellers in Lexington, Okla. He attended school in San Benito, Texas and served in the Navy from Jan. 7, 1941, until his retirement on Feb. 29, 1959. He helped launch the carrier ship Intrepid as one of the original crew members.

On Oct. 4, 1962, he married Florine Marie Leech in Cambridge. He was a welding millwright and worked for Case International Harvester in McCook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Merle Jane Harpst; and a brother, Jack Fellers.

Survivors include his wife, Florine Fellers of Hastings; three daughters, Valorie and husband, Jarry Pollmann of McCook, Holly and husband, Sonny Parker of Maben, Miss., Zolona and husband, Rick Rader of Hastings; sisters, Betty Moon of Victoria, Texas and Joyce Borello of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell with Chaplin Norval Holtmeier officiating. Military rites will be performed.

Visitation was today until 5 p.m., at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Heritage Senior Center in McCook.
