STRATTON -- Maxine Viola Crocker, 84, died Thursday (Feb. 10, 2005) at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.
She was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Stratton to John and Edith (Ward) Randall and attended Stratton Public Schools. After graduating from Stratton High School, she attended Kearney Teachers College where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught school for many years, having taught at several country schools, and then at Indianola, Grand Island, and Lincoln.
She married Everett Crocker in Lincoln and retired from teaching to be a homemaker. In 1965, Maxine moved with her family to Stratton where she babysat for several families in her home. She was also a caregiver.
She was a member Community United Methodist Church in Stratton, the United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Randall; her husband, Everett Crocker; brothers, Donald and Burdette Randall; an infant sister, Ethel Fay; and several brother and sisters-in-law.
Survivors include her daughter, Christine Ochoa and husband, Julian of North Platte; sisters, Marjorie Randall of Trenton, Jeannine Pierce and husband, Ted of Stratton; sisters-in-law, Cecile Dochling of Grand Island, Ruth Crocker of Maine; step-children, Tom Crocker and wife, Trish of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Susan Majerus, Nancy Richter and husband, Ralph, all of Des Moines, Iowa, Patrick Crocker of Washington and Sarah Sottile of Connecticut; three grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren.
Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m. (CST), at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.
There will be no visitation or viewing.
Memorials may be given in her name to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of choice.
