Vernon A. Meints passed away Feb. 7, 2005, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 79.

He was born April 25, 1925, in Culbertson, the eldest son of Henry and Alice (Seed) Meints. He was preceded in death by both his parents and one brother, Raymond of Lincoln and a daughter, Merry Jeane Bunstock.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine; two grandsons, Troy Erdman and wife, Rita of McCook and Derek Erdman and wife, Ginger of North Platte; two great-grandsons, Brock and Nicholas; three great-granddaughters, Mallory, Jessica and Brenna; two step-great-grandchildren, Heith and Danielle Sauvage; one sister, Doris Brown and husband, Wilbur of Elm Creek; one brother, Donald E. Meints and wife, Charlotte of Oberlin; sisters-in-law, Myra Meints of Lincoln and Jean Myers of Rochester, N.H.; many nephews and nieces.

Vern was baptized in the Christian faith in St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. He taught Peace Youth Bible Study classes for many years. Vern served he country in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 and served as McCook mayor from 1965 to 1972.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Randy Wahl officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
