BEAVER CITY -- Opal P. Long, 85, died Sunday (Feb. 6, 2005) at Beaver City Manor in Beaver City.

She was born Oct. 12, 1919, to Albert P. and Millie (Lawson) Wagner in Beloit, Kan. She grew up in the Holdrege area and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1937.

On May 9, 1939, she married Gordon Long in Kearney. The couple ran a creamery in Holdrege for many years. During World War II she worked at the Ammunition Depot in Hastings. After the war they moved to California for several years. The family moved back to Nebraska and lived in several communities before moving to Beaver City in 1961. Her husband died April 14, 1997. She then moved to Beaver City Manor on Aug. 25, 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; three brothers, Don, Lewis and Jim; and two sisters, Ella and Ethel.

Survivors include three sons, Keith and wife, Charlotte of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Alvah and wife, Suzan of Beaver City and Randy and wife, Roxy of Beaver City; two daughters, Judy and husband, Page Smith-Alley Jr., of Beaver City and Susan and husband, Butch Hardenbrook of Beaver City; one brother, Harold "Pete" and wife, Joyce Wagner of Lincoln; one sister, Helen Cozad of Garden Grove, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Grace Brethren Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Dwain Fowler and Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City.

Visitation is Tuesday, 12-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services at the church.
