McCook's Jessica Hall breaks school diving record -- again

The McCook High School swimmers faced North Platte and Hastings Friday at the Ed Thomas YMCA in McCook.

McCook senior Jessica Hall placed second overall in the meet and broke her own six-dive record with a score of 196.40.

Matt Hall placed second overall with a score of 171.70 and Alyssa Cook placed third with a score of 153.53.

The Bison girls defeated North Platte but lost to Hastings by 10 points.

"We matched up closely with these two teams," said McCook coach Lori Jumps. "The girls have the potential to beat either team each time we meet."

The 200 yard medley and free relays both have the potential for going to state but dropped in the overall standings.

The medley relay improved its time this meet but there was no improvement for the free relay.

"We hope to see significant improvements with both those relays for GNAC coming up Friday. Big meets tend to bring out the best in this team," Jumps said.

The McCook boys lost to both teams but improved many of their times.

Cody Martin improved his 200 individual medley time by 4 seconds and placed second overall.

Ryan Ankersen has steadily improved his 100 breaststroke time, taking off 3 seconds this season.

Monique Monzon improved her 200 individual medley by nearly 5 seconds.

"Every meet we have swimmers reaching their personal best. All swimmers have strived for their best at every meet and I am proud of all of their efforts," Jumps said.

Divers also competed Saturday at the Kearney Diving Invitational at the University of Nebraska Kearney.

Other school competing were North Platte, Kearney, Hastings and Columbus.

Jessica Hall and Matt Hall both placed third with a score of 343.10 and 276.20 respectively.

Cook injured her right foot during the meet and was unable to finish the meet.

Jessica Hall, who will be making her third trip to the Nebraska State Diving Championships Feb. 24-26 at Lincoln, broke her own school record with her 11-dive points total.
