Emma Stewart Martin died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, upon arrival at McCook Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 97.
She was born Oct. 19, 1907, in Culbertson, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Wittwer) Miller. She grew up in Culbertson where she graduated from Culbertson High School in 1924. She attended Kearney State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Dickens.
On April 25, 1930, she married Ray Stewart and they farmed in Hitchcock County until 1949, when they moved to McCook. Her husband, Ray preceded her in death on July 2, 1954.
On June 22, 1961, Emma married Fred Martin. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1984. She spent most of her married life in McCook, where she worked in housekeeping at the Chief Motel for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by one daughter, Jackie Eiholzer and husband, John of Glendale, Calif., and two sons, Gene Stewart of West Covina, Calif., and Keith Stewart and wife, Darlene of North Platte; four grandchildren, Cheryl Eiholzer and husband, Mark Hoza, Sean Eiholzer and wife, Brenda, Kevin Stewart and wife, Mary and Kaylin Jolliffe and husband, Ron; two great-grandchildren, Jake Jolliffe and Kimmie Jolliffe; five step-children, James Martin and wife, Beverly of McCook, Frieda Goetze and husband, Bernard of Oberlin, Kan., Bernadette Miller and husband, LaVerne of Sioux Falls, S.D., Clifford Martin and wife, Carol of Centennial, Colo., and Bonita Hollenhors and husband, Cary of Trenton; 25 step-grandchildren and 56 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Miller and wife, Alma of Culbertson; two sisters, Ann Reiger of McCook and Ruth Hesseltine and husband, Bob of Portland, Ore.; relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Friday at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dan Spearow officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery in Culbertson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
