ARAPAHOE -- Dorville Dale Whitson Sr., 79, died Saturday (Jan. 29, 2005) at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

He was born July 29, 1925, to Josiah W. and Alpha (Howe) Whitson in Birds, Ill.

He attended school at Birds Public School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Lawrenceville High School in Lawrenceville, Ill., in 1942.

After school he went into military service with the Navy during World War II.

On March 3, 1952, he married Joanne C. Amerman in Lawrenceville. He attended Rose Poly Institute for a couple of years and then went back in the service with the Air Force in 1957. He served for 21 years and specialized as a computer technician. He lived in Lawton, Okla., and Omaha after he retired. The couple then made their home in Holbrook.

He was a member of the Holbrook Lions Club, American Legion Post No. 96 of Arapahoe and the First Baptist Church of Holbrook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Whitson; and brother, Loran Whitson.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Whitson of Holbrook; son, L.D. Whitson of Olney, Ill., Joseph and wife, Vickie Whitson of Vacaville, Calif., Dale and wife, Loida Whitson of Holbrook and Thomas and wife, Connie Whitson of Martinez, Calif.; daughter, Sheryl and husband, Kevin Gramman of Omaha; sister, Lucille Seachrest of Olney, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Holbrook with Roy Hart Jr. officiating. Interment will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at West Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Omaha with military rights by Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard of Bellevue.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe and prior to services at the church.
