Southern Valley girls coach Mike Lanham wins 400th game

ARAPAHOE -- The Southern Valley girls gave coach Mike Lanham his 400th career win Friday night as the Eagles came away with a convincing 76-51 victory over the Arapahoe Warriors.

Lanham has a career record of 400 wins, 143 losses.

Southern Valley's Megan Becker led all scorers with 18 points.

Abbey Breinig led Arapahoe with 16 points.

The Eagles of Southern Valley shot 75 percent from the foul line in the fourth quarter to shut the door on the Warriors of Arapahoe.

Both squads next participate in the RVL tourney next week.

ARAPAHOE -- The Southern Valley Eagles came to town looking to upset Arapahoe, the seventh ranked team in class D-1 by the Omaha World Herald, 51-42.

Both teams gave the fans their money's worth as the first half was a see-saw battle with Arapahoe having a one point edge at the half.

Arapahoe slowly pulled away in the second half for the win.

Arapahoe's Tony Braithwait led all scorers with 25 points, 12 of those coming from behind the three point arc. Blake Maaske had 11 rebounds and Adam Borden had 8 assists.

Southern Valley was led in scoring by Chase Quinn with 15 points. Mike Powell led Southern Valley in rebounds with 6 and teammates Gaven Fultz and Chase Quinn had 3 assists each.

Arapahoe hosts Eustis-Farnam on Saturday.

INDIANOLA -- The Southwest Roughriders played host to the Dundy County Tigers Friday night and came away with a 60-51 win.

The game was played pretty tightly until the third quarter when Southwest put up 22 and turned up the defense to limit the tigers to 5.

Dundy County made a good comeback effort in the fourth outscoring the Roughriders 24-12 but fell short as Southwest gets the win 60-51.

Southwest was led in scoring by Landon Ruggles with 14, and Burton Burton with 11.

Paul Castillo led Dundy County in scoring with 16 , Kyle Glidden added 15, and Collin Lutz chipped in 12.

Southwest travels to Loomis for its next contest on Saturday.

Dundy County's next game will be in the RVL tournament at Southern Valley against Southern Valley on Tuesday.

INDIANOLA -- The Southwest Roughrider girls hosted Dundy County and put out a great defensive performance in a 55-27 win.

Southwest limited Dundy County to 8 first half points.

Southwest coach Dennis Troester after the game said, "We had an excellent defensive effort by everyone. Our offensive effort was our best since Christmas."

Chelsey Quigley led Southwest in scoring with 15, Savannah Noyes had 12, Lisa Daffer and Cayla Skaritka both added 11.

Dundy County was led in scoring by Brooke Olson with 11 points.

Southwest travels to Loomis Saturday for its next contest.

HAYES CENTER -- Despite 21 points from Mary Gohl, Hayes Center fell to Maxwell in girls' acton Friday night.

Gohl was followed by Jenny Hamilton and Randi Steele with 4 points each. Gohl had 14 rebounds for Hayes Center.

Kayla Bauer had 8 rebounds and Jenny Hamilton had 6 rebounds for Hayes Center.

Amy Cox led Hayes Center with 5 takeaways.

No information was available for Maxwell.

Hayes Center plays in the GPAC tournament next week.

McDONALD -- Kori Underwood hit the game winning three pointer and hit three others from behind the three-point arc to lead the Cheylin Cougars to a win over Weskan Friday night.

"The girls stepped it up and played hard," said Cheylin girls coach Dennis Hengen.

Underwood led all scorers with 16 points.

Hollie McKinney led Weskan with 11 points.

Cheylin plays next a Rawlins County - Atwood on Jan. 25.

Trailing by two points at the end of the first quarter, the Broncos went on to outscore Paxton by eight points in the second.
