Melvin Gilbert Welp, 75, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2005) at McCook Community Hospital in McCook.
He was born March 15, 1929, in Vernon, Colo., to Walter H. and Wilma G. (Fagan) Welp. He grew up in Vernon and graduated from rural school. He moved to McCook in 1940.
On Dec. 24, 1950, he married Annabelle Weskamp. For the past 50 years he has owned and operated Mel's Marine and was active until his death.
He was a member of the McCook Speedway Association.
Survivors include his wife, Annabelle of McCook; one sister, Elva Garland of St. Louis, Mo.; and extended family, Kathy Kinkade and husband, Kelly, Harold Pearson and wife, Lori, Dan Pearson and wife, Monica, Tonda Simmonds and husband, Mike, George Patterson and wife, Sylvia, George Pearson and wife, Peggy, all of McCook, Cindy Moore and husband, Stan of Bartley and Duane Patterson and wife, Kathy of Denver, Colo.
Services are Friday at 10:30 a.m., at McCook Christian Church of McCook with the Rev. Randy Wahl officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. A potluck dinner will follow at the church.
Family will receive friends Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at McCook Christian Church.
Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call today at the funeral home until 9 p.m.
