Area wrestling roundup: Korus 3rd, McCart 4th at Scottsbluff

SCOTTSBLUFF -- The McCook wrestling team competed at the Scottsbluff tournament on Saturday.

Dallas Korus was the top Bison finisher, placing third at 130 pounds.

Korus picked up a win over Ty Werdel of Chadron, who is ranked at 130 pounds.

Also winning against a ranked opponenet was Jon McCart.

McCart placed fourth at 103 pounds and scored a win over Zack Appleby of Sidney.

Also competing for McCook were Austin Gessleman going 1-2 at 125, Ahren Hays went 1-2 at 135, Kyle Lambert was 0-2 at 140, and Sam Frazier at 171 going 1-2.

The Bison JV will be in action on Tuesday at the Sutherland JV tournament.

The Varsity wrestling squad will be in Oberlin on Saturday for the Oberlin Invitational.

Dundy County Invitational title

BENKLEMAN -- Several area teams competed at the Dundy County Invitational wrestling tournament in Benkleman on Saturday.

The Oberlin JV team took first place in the team standings, with Southwest finishing third and Wauneta-Palisade in fourth.

Home team Dundy County was sixth and Rawlins County placed seventh. The Hitchcock County wrestlers were 10th.

Wauneta-Palisade and Oberlin had the most individual winners with three.

Jesse West took first at 125pounds, Jake Smith was first at 140 pounds, and Peter Barger was a winner at 145 pounds for the Broncos.

For the Red Devils, Gage Reichart won at 112 pounds, Terry Urban took first at 171 pounds, and Regan Badsky was first at 189 pounds.

Southwest also had multiple winners. Mitchell Sheets was first at 103 pounds for Southwest and Mark Haag was crowned champion at 130 pounds for the Roughriders.

Casey Warning took first for Dundy County and Shelby Wright was the individual winner at 275 for Rawlins County.
