Hayes Center boys, girls sweep Maywood

HAYES CENTER -- The Hayes Center boys basketball team picked up another win on Thursday, defeating Maywood 54-44.

Hayes Center held a one point halftime lead, then outscored Maywood 16-8 in the third quarter. Hayes Center edged the Tigers by a point in the final period to secure the win.

Curtis Olsen led the Cardinals with a game high 15 points. Brett Brown added 11 for Hayes Center. Olsen also had 17 rebounds for Hayes Center.

Derrick Hansen led Maywood with 14 points.

Hayes Center improves to 6-2 and will host Sutherland on Friday.

Maywood is now 3-4 and will play Paxton on Friday.

HAYES CENTER -- The Hayes Center girls basketball team defeated Maywood 41-18 on Thursday.

Hayes Center led by nine points after the first half, thanks to a 13-4 first quarter.

Maywood was outscored in the second half 22-8.

"Our press this game was very effective and executed very well," said Hayes Center coach Krystal Sauser, " the girls played a good game overall."

Hayes Center moves to 5-3 on the year and will play North Platte St. Pats on Thursday.

Maywood falls to 1-6 and will host Paxton on Friday.

WAUNETA -- The Wauneta-Palisade boys basketball team cruised to a 101-36 victory over Medicine Valley on Thursday.

Wauneta-Palisade held Medicine Valley to just three points in the first quarter and 11 points in the first half.

Andrew Isom led five Broncos in double figures with 25 points.

Russell Ridlen added 16 points, Trevor Ridlen 14, Marc Klima 12, and Brad Licht chipped in 10.

Jordan Wilcox led Medicine Valley with 14 points and Joe Warneke added 10.

Maywood will play Keya Paha County on Tuesday in the Boyd County tournament.

Wauneta-Palisade improves to 6-1 on the season and will host Hitchcock County on Friday.

WAUNETA -- Kyle-Lynn Hughes scored 15 points and Lacey Bryant added 11 for the Medicine Valley girls basketball team, which handed Wauneta-Palisade its first loss on Thursday, 58-52.

After falling behind by 14 points after the first quarter, Medicine Valley pulled to within eight at halftime.

Medicine Valley entered the fourth quarter trailing by five, then held Wauneta-Palisade to just four points in the final period, while scoring 15.

Betsy Anderjaska led the Broncos with 17 points. Kiane Alberts added 14 points and Janae Harris chipped in 10.

Wauneta-Palisade falls to 6-1 and will host Hitchcock County on Friday.

Medicine Valley improves to 4-5 and will play Arapahoe on Friday.

Cheryl Braithwait had 15 points to lead the Warriors and Abbey Breinig added 14.

Lacie Burgess led Red Cloud with 12 points.

Arapahoe is now 6-2 and will play at Alma on Tuesday.

Arapahoe is now 6-2 on the year and will play at Medicine Valley on Friday.
