OBERLIN -- Neva J. Townsend, 95, died Friday (Dec. 17, 2004) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
She was born June 18, 1909, to Clare G. Crook and Himla Gusafson in Ainsworth. She was raised in Brown County and then moved to Decatur County. She attended Mount Center country school in Sherman Township and Danbury High School.
On July 15, 1925, she married Densel "Sox" Townsend in Norton, Kan. She was a homemaker and a cook in Oberlin cafes.
She was a charter member of the Liberty Star Club, a Cancer Crusader for many years, a Senior Olympics qualifier in bowling.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; daughter, Betty June Archer in 2003; and four sisters, Ida and Lucille, in infancy, and Bernice Copley and Irene Horn.
Survivors include her son, Gary L. Townsend and wife, Lucille of Danbury; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating. Interment will be in Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday, 8 a.m., until service time at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Golden Age Center.
