BENKELMAN -- The Hitchcock County boys basketball team placed four players in double figures Friday night in a 73-56 win over Dundy County at Benkelman.

John Thompson fired in 23 points for the Falcons, includingfour 3-pointers.

Adam Wright added 16, Chancy Carlson 11 and Josh Kershaw 10. Austin Scott contributed 7.

Collin Lutz paced the Tigers with 12 points. Kyle Glidden added 11, Josey Stroup 9 and A.J. McVey 9.

Hitchcock County hosts Medicine Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Dundy County plays Cheylin at Bird City at 7 p.m. Saturday.

INDIANOLA -- The Southwest High School girls basketball team bounced back from Thursday's 49-43 loss to Chase County-Imperial by posting a 56-31 win at home against Arapahoe.

Savannah Noyes led the host Roughriders with 14 points, followed by Lisa Daffer with 11, Cayla Skaritka 9, Chelsea Morgan 7, Chelsey Quigley 6 and Alisha Weaver 3.

Morgan grabbed 12 rebounds, Skaritka 11, Noyes 5, Weaver 5, Quigley 4 and Daffer 4.

Daffer had 4 assists. Npyes, Skartika, Weaver and Quigley had 2 each and Morgan 1. Weaver had 4 steals, Skaritka 2, Noyes 1, Morgan 1 and Quigley 1.

Cheryl Braithwait led the Warriors with 8 points, followed by Abbey Breinig 5 and Kelsie Ervin 5.

"It was a good team effort by Southwest," said coach Dennis Troester. "It was an excellent defensive game."

Southwest competes at the Grant Tournament Dec. 29-30. Arapahoe hosts the Arapahoe Holiday Tournament on the same days.

MAYWOOD -- Maywood edged Eustis-Farnam, 42-38, in boys basketball action here Friday night.

Craig Hazen lit up the scoreboards with 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the winning Tigers.

Leading scorer for the Knights was Ryan Wetovick with 16 points.

"Our boys played a great game on defense," Maywood Assistant Coach Jason Eberle said.

"Defense is what won it for them."

Maywood, now 3-3, travels to Hayes Center Dec. 30.

St. Francis was led by Lauren Ross and Amy Grace with seven points each.

Oberlin will be on the road Jan. 4 when they take on Norton.

ATWOOD -- Both the boys and girls basketball games between Rawlins County and Hoxie scheduled for Friday were called off because of illness.

No announcement was made whether the games will be rescheduled.

OXFORD -- Southern Valley romped to a 47-34 win over Alma in boys basketball action here Friday.

Andrew Winscot pumped in 21 points to lead the winning Eagles.

Jake Ring led the Cardinals with with eight points.

Both teams hit 60 percent from the line Southern Valley was 21-for- 35 while Alma was 9-for-15.

Southern Valley tossed in seven of 11 free throws for 64 percent.

Southern Valley travels to Cozad Saturday night.

Andrew Marshall had 15 points for Cheylin, and S. Hengen had 10, with Tribune's Henry Sloan dropping in 25 points and Brad Cardonell adding 12.

Cheylin, still looking for its first win, hosts Benkelman on Saturday night.

BIRD CITY -- Greeley County-Tribune soared to a 63-36 win over Cheylin in girls basketball play here Friday night.

Kaylaen Dittmer lit up the boards with 38 points to lead the winning Jackrabbits. Shannon Robertson added 10 points.

The Cougars were led by Becca Mason and Aubrey Kelhbeck with eight points each.

Both teams were 40 percent from the free throw line. Tribune hit eight of 20 while Cheylin was 6-for-15.

"We had 44 turnovers and that really hurt us," Cheylin Coach Dennis Hengen said. "We're getting better. We're a young team; we just need to get our turnovers under control."

Cheylin travels to Benkelman tonight to take on Dundy County.

BIG SPRINGS -- The Broncos turned a 24-5 first quarter and never looked back as Wauneta-Palisade beat South Platte 62-32 on Friday night.

"It was a big first quarter for Wauneta-Palisade," Coach Roger Lauhead said.

"That pretty much dictated the outcome of the game."

Kiane Alberts had 17 points to lead Wauneta-Palisade, followed by Stephanie Padilla with 14, Betsy Anderjaska 12 and Janae Harris 10.

Vicky Armstrong was the lone South Platte player in double figures, with 10.

Now 4-1, the Broncos host Hayes Center on Saturday night.

Brett Brown put 19 points through the hoop to lead the winning Cardinals. Curtis Olson chipped in 18 points.

Mark Johnson and Tony Ross each scored 16 points to lead the Spartans.

Leading rebounder for Hayes Center was Olson with 12.

Hayes Center travels to Wauneta Saturday to play Wauneta-Palisade.

Mary Gohl lead Hayes Center Cardinals in scoring with 12 points, followed by Dove Messersmith with 10 points.

The Cardinals' leading rebounder was Jenny Hamilton with 21.

Jaimie Lapp had four steals and Messersmith had three.

"This wasn't one of our better games. Things just weren't going the way we had practiced this week," Hayes Center coach Krystal Sauser said.

Hayes Center is on the road Saturday at Wauneta-Palisade.

MAYWOOD -- The Eustis-Farnam girls basketball team used a 25-6 second half run to defeat the host Maywood Tigers Friday night.

Lisa Fagot led the Knights with 11 points, followed by Chelsea Wolf 10 and Christina Schroeder 9.

Wolf had 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Schroeder had 7 rebounds. Fagot had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Tara Schultheiss had 2 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Staci Koester led the Tigers with 6 points.

"The girls moved the ball well all night long and had many good looks," said Eustis-Farnam girls coach Brad Dunlap.

"Our shooting will come. The defensive intensity was strong again tonight and we rebounded the ball better."

Eustis-Farnam improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Central Platte Conference. Maywood is 1-4.

The Knights host Bertrand on Jan. 6. Maywood plays at Hayes Center Dec. 30.
