Gordon James Bennett, 65, of Lexington, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 2004) at his home in Lexington.

He was born July 22, 1939, in Red Willow County to Harold Scott and Hazelle Hildred (Broomfield) Bennett.

Gordon grew up with his three brothers on his parents farm and graduated from Danbury High School, Danbury with the class of 1957.

On Aug. 27, 1960, he married Constance Jean Carlson in McCook. Gordon started his career as a partsman before entering radio as the first voice heard on KNLV in Ord. He spent several years as a broadcaster and a salesman, many of those years for KRVN and KAMI. In 1976, he and Connie opened their own Sidles Mr. Automotive store in Ravenna followed by a store in Hastings. In 1981, he and Connie returned to Lexington and KRVN. They also owned and operated the Lexington Coast-to-Coast for a few years. He retired from KRVN in September 2004 from his long-time role as national sales manager.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Raymond and Kent.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Bennett of Lexington; one son, Curt and wife, Susan Bennett of Lexington; one daughter, Barbara and husband, Don Ostdiek of Bellaire, Texas; one brother, Jerry and wife, Joan Bennett of Cozad; parents-in-law, Donald and Deloris Carlson of Holdrege; brothers-in-law, Steve Carlson of Hastings and Richard and wife, Jan Carlson of Bennington; and six grandchildren.

Services are Monday, 2:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Dave Thorell conducting the service.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, the Tri-County Hospital Hospice or the donor's choice.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
