NORTH PLATTE -- Robert "Dennis" Chilcott, 80, of North Platte, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born Nov. 7, 1924, to Harry Charles and Helen Marie Shirley Chilcott in Freedom. He grew up in the Freedom area and graduated from Havana High School in 1942.

He joined the Navy in February of 1944 and served until June 1946. After his discharge he returned to the Stockville area and helped his father on the farm.

On Aug. 5, 1951, he married Joy Mae Brown in Indianola. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in McCook and Klamath Falls, Ore. Later he worked for Clinch Flying Service in North Platte before selling encyclopedias.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and PR Halligan Post No. 163 American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Joy of North Platte; three daughters, Gail and husband, Randy Reznor of Gering, Mary and husband, Scott Miller of Doniphan and Helen LaRue of North Platte; three sons, Michael and wife, Irene Chilcott of Ogallala, Fred Chilcott of Omaha and Paul and wife, Cecilia Chilcott of North Platte; two brothers, Darrell Chilcott of Denver, Colo., and Danny Chilcott of Tucson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial is Thursday, 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with the Rev. Brad Zitek officiating. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Indianola, 1:30 p.m., with military honors provided by the Indianola American Legion Post No. 344.

The rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.

Visitation is today and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established at Callahan Cancer Center.
