HERNDON -- Gary Gene Soderlund, 67, died Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born April 6, 1937, at Kanona, Kan., to Frank and Doretta (Butler) Soderlund. He was raised in Decatur County, attended Kanona Grade School and Decatur Community High School. He graduated in 1955.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was married to Norma Witt. That marriage ended in divorce. He later married Marles Rowley. He lived in Oberlin and moved to Herndon in 1994.
He worked for Nichols Building Supply, Kelley Farms, and Kelley Well Service. He served as a rural volunteer fireman.
He was a member of the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70 and the Herndon Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alfred, Wayne and Francis Soderlund.
Survivors include his wife, Marles Rowley; son, Kevin Soderlund and wife, Mariah of Hugoton, Kan.; three steps-sons, Terry Rowley of Eugene, Ore., Tim and wife, Pam Rowley of Grant and Jeff and wife, Kim Rowley of Wichita, Kan.; three step-daughters, Tammi and husband, John Cash of Herndon, Jolene and husband, Dan Stevenson of Arma, Kan., and Jodie and husband, Darren Touslee of Colby, Kan.; one brother, Dale and wife, Lenora Soderlund of Oberlin; two sisters, Dolores Depperschmidt of Dresden and Doreen and husband, Jack Sabin of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Rev. Dough Hasty officiating. Interment will follow at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Wednesday at 8 a.m., until the time of the service at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin.
