ATWOOD -- William M. "Bill" Ruda, 58, died Sunday (Nov. 7, 2004) at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.
He was born Dec. 27, 1945, to Victor J. and Vaneta E. (Passell) Ruda in Colby, Kan. He grew up on the family farm near Atwood. He attended elementary school at Chardon County School and graduated from Atwood High School in 1964. He then attended Colby Community College, NWKAV in Goodland, Fort Hays State University and MAVTS in Manhattan, Kan., majoring in business and computer operations.
He joined the Navy from 1970-1974. He was stationed in Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon for over four years.
Following his discharge from the Navy in 1974, he continued his work in the field of computer operations with the civil service at Offutt Airforce Base in Omaha. He retired in March of 1998.
On July 15, 1995, he married Deborah J. Miller in Omaha.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellevue.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah; step-sons, James Miller and David and wife, Jill Miller of Omaha; his mother, Vaneta Ruda of Colby; brother, Tim and wife, Vicki Ruda of Atwood; sister, Linda Petty of Liberal, Kan.; and two step-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial is Friday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood.
A parish vigil and rosary will be today, 7 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home of Atwood.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in his name to a charity of the donor's choice.
