COLBY, Kan. -- Velma C. Rogers, 92, died Saturday (Nov. 6, 2004) at Citizen's Medical Center in Colby, Kan.
She was born Sept. 6, 1912, to Lewis "Ed" and Kittie (Smith) Temple in Norton County, Kan. She was raised in the Norcatur area and attended grade school there. In 1932, she graduated from Norcatur High School.
On Oct. 18, 1931, she married Fayne "Tuff" Rodgers in Gove, Kan. She was a grocery store checker. She moved from Norcatur to Colby in 2000.
She was a member of the Norcatur United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Civic Club and Quilters Group. She was a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fayne in 1976; step-mother Mae McHensney Temple; son-in-law, Gayleen Menges; infant brother; three step-brothers, Gerald, Harold and Verle McChesney; sister, Mildred Railsback; and step-sister, Maxine Skibbie.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Menges of Colby; two half-brothers, Edward Temple and wife, Fu Sing of Darien, Ill., and Archie Temple and wife, Doris of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. James Mardock officiating. Interment will be in Norcatur Cemetery in Norcatur.
Visitation is Tuesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Wednesday, 8 a.m., until service time at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Norcatur Cemetery Fund, Norcatur United Methodist Church or the Norcatur News Sheet.
