Marie Bradley, 86, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at the Mitchell Care Center. In keeping with her wishes, her remains were cremated, and services will be held at a later date in Oberlin, Kan. Memorials in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Jones Mortuary, P.O. Box 235, Mitchell, NE 69357. Jones Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Marie was born Jan. 31, 1918, in McCook, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Gettman) Weiss. She grew up and received her education in McCook, and in June of 1938, she married Orvin Bradley.
She and her husband lived in Oberlin most of their married life, where Marie worked in the cafeteria at the Oberlin High School and in the laundry at the Oberlin hospital. She was also involved with her husband in the family business, Bradley and Son Blacksmith Shop, a third generation Oberlin business.
After her husbands' death in 1993, Marie moved to Oceano, Calif., to live with her sister, Esther Garkovich and her family. She moved to Mitchell in 1995 to live with her daughter and her family and to the Mitchell Care Center in 1997, where she has resided since.
Marie was a member of the Federated Church in Oberlin.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra and her husband John Beard of Mitchell and Mary Jeffus of Chula Vista, Calif., her sons John and his wife Dianne Bradley of Arvada, Colo., and Roger and his wife Ruth Bradley of Sterling, Va., seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Esther and her husband Mike Garkovich of Oceano and Eleanor Fuller of Northglenn, Colo., and sisters in law Bertha Weiss of Alton, Mo., and Odene Koehler and Elaine and her husband Elwood Mines, all of Oberlin.
Her husband; brothers Jacob, John, Buck and Duke; and her sister Helen Becker preceded Marie in death.
