County buys used truck

Red Willow County commissioners purchased a used pickup for Commissioner Leigh Hoyt's Third District during a regular meeting Monday morning in the courthouse.

Commissioners reviewed two bids -- from LB Motors and Wagner Ford Mercury Toyota, both of McCook -- and purchased a 2003 Ford F250 3/4-ton standard cab pickup from Wagner.

Commissioners traded in a 1994 Ford F150 with 142,000 miles on it.

Wagner's purchase price, including the trade-in, was $17,780. The pickup is four-wheel drive with a V10 6.8-liter engine. It has a manual transmission and is equipped with a bedliner, gooseneck trailer hitch and trailer-towing package. It has 23,000 miles on it.

LB Motors offered a 2003 Chevy CK2500 Silverado, with 9,500 miles. It has a 6-liter V8 engine. LB's purchase price, with included the trade-in, was $18,100.

"Either would run us for 10 to 12 years," said Commission Chairman Earl McNutt. "Each has a one-year factory warranty."

McNutt said all local dealers were contacted and offered the opportunity to bid on the pickup.
