The McCook tennis team wrapped up its season with a seventh place finish at state.

Brandon Crick finished third at state in number two singles, and ended the season with a 30-2 record.

"I have said all along that nobody will beat Brandon but himself, and that's what happened, he played not to lose and stopped playing aggressively. He was beaten by the eventual state champion, so there is nothing to hang his head about," said McCook coach Matt Wiemers.

Harrison Ford and Brett Burton teamed up to take fourth in number two doubles at state. They finish the season with a 28-12 record.

"They played with so much passion and determination the past two seasons. They showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the season and at state. They have had two outstanding seasons and have created many great memories along the way," said Wiemers.

This was the first year that McCook has had two semifinalists at state, and Crick was the first number one seed for the Bison at state.

Brad Potthoff went 1-1 at state and finished the season 18-12.

"Brad did a great job the last two weeks of the season elevating his game. He played against some excellent opponents and came away with some big wins, which enabled Brad to earn a seed at state," said Wiemers.

Joel Putz and Asher Brooks lost in the first round at the state meet, finishing the season with a 27-10 record.

"I am pleased with their performance and how well they gelled together," said Wiemers. Joel did a great job leading Asher and Asher played some excellent tennis. They are competitive players and they beat some quality opponents. They had a great season and are looking forward to next season."

McCook will return five of six varsity players and 12 of 13 overall.

"I want to thank all the team members for a great season. I also want to give a special thank you to the parents who have supported and helped in many ways this season. They are big contributors to the success we have had.

"And to Harrison, I appreciate all you have done and the time you have put in to make Bison tennis a success. The team and I will miss having you around next year," concluded Wiemers.
