George E. Cornwell, Jr., 55, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, in La Vista from complications of diabetes.
He was born Jan. 18, 1949, in Cass Lake, Minn.
He and his wife, Sue, moved to Indianola from Omaha in June of 1973, when they bought the Rocket Inn. He joined the fire department immediately where he served as a firefighter and EMT. He was also an EMT instructor and was responsible for establishing an EMT unit for Indianola. He was responsible for recruiting most of the communities firefighters and for training most of the department's EMTs.
Through the Rocket Inn, the Cornwell's supported many kids' activities, Boy and Girl Scouts and 4-H.
He served as a member of the Republican Valley Schools Board of Education from 1987 to 1993 and was named Businessman of the Year in 1974 by the Greater McCook Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his father, George E. Cornwell, Sr.; mother, Pat; and one brother, John.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; his daughter, Christine and special friend, Jim Schultz and their daughters; sons, George III and Annie, Tim and Janet; three brothers, Brian and wife, Rita, Mark and wife, Barb, and David and special friend, Tony.
Services were Sept. 9, 2004, at Bethany Funeral Home Chapel in La Vista with Deacon Jerry Overkamp officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Omaha.
A memorial Mass will be Sunday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with the Revs. Daniel Rayer and Nicholas Baker officiating.
