The McCook High School freshmen volleyball A team went 2-1 at the McCook Freshmen/Sophomore Volleyball tournament this weekend.

The freshmen lost their first match of the tournament to Chase County 20-25, 25-14, 15-9.

"We started out well but got back on our heels in Game 2 and never recovered," said McCook freshmen volleyball coach Barry Schaeffer. "In game 3 we misses too many serves, and got down 6 - 2 early and could not catch up."

In the Wauneta-Palisade Match McCook won in straight sets 25-12, 25-14.

"We talked about serving better this game and moving and talking defensively for the most part we did that," Schaeffer said. "When we did have trouble serving the ball,

"Sigourney Parde came off the bench and served out the game. She did a good job of serving and the other girls did a good job of helping keep the serve. We passed the ball better this match and played better overall."

In the Dundy County match McCook won in three games 25-21. 21-25, 15-12.

"We had some really bright moments and some moments that weren't so bright but we were able to get the job done and earn a win," Schaeffer said.

"We served fairly well the first game but missed some crucial ones in the second game. In the final game we kept it close and then found a way to pull away enough to get the win. Overall this was a pretty productive weekend for the girls."

The Bison A-team improved to 6-6.

McCook plays at Southwest on Tuesday and North Platte comes to town Thursday.

The match that was scheduled with Hitchcock County had to be canceled due to a lack of numbers.
