Rendezvous

Monday, September 27, 2004

Garan Coons of the Many Moccasins Dance Troupe of Winnebago performs the "men's fancy dance" during the Grand Duke Alexis buffalo hunt rendezvous at Camp Hayes Saturday afternoon. With Buffalo Bill, the Grand Duke, General George Custer, General Phil Sheridan and "California Joe" looking on, dance troupe members mesmerized spectators with their music and drumbeat, fancy footwork and floating feathers. Hundreds of people wandered through the rendezvous camp Saturday and Sunday, getting a glimpse of prairie life at the time of the Grand Duke's historic buffalo hunt across the Nebraska Plains in 1872.
