Hastings resident Betty Bee Newlun, 79, of 2715 West Eight Street, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at her home.

Services will be Thursday, Sept. 28, 2004, 10:30 a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings.

Mrs. Newlun was born May 8, 1925, in McCook to Archie L. and Neva (Fassler) Ball. On July 2, 1959, she married Jack E. Newlun. They moved from McCook to Hastings in 1960. She was a homemaker and attended Grace United Methodist Church. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping.

Mrs. Newlun was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack E. Newlun, Sr.; daughter, Peggy Wright; grandson, Kyle Newlun; three brothers, Robert Ball, Wayne Ball and infant brother; and one sister, Marge Simmons.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, June and Ken Luebke of Omaha and Connie and Elden Waldron of Littleton, Colo.; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim "JK" and Jeanine Wright of Lincoln and Jack Jr. and Patty Newlun of Hastings; eight grandchildren and spouses, Mikaela M. Newlun, Cody J. Newlun, Dianne (Luebke) and Alan Spano, David Luebke, Yvette (Waldron) and Nick Opperman, Craig Waldron, Jennifer (Wright) and Dean Bunch and Rebecca (Wright) and John Mort; nine grandchildren, Ashton Opperman, Jayden Opperman, Connor Waldron, Jordan Waldron, Madison Bunch, Chase Bunch, Taylor Mort, Haley Mort and Preston Mort; sister, Gerry Leibbrandt of Holdrege; and brother and spouse, Roger and Carol Ball of McCook.

Memorials may be given to the Grace United Methodist Church or American Red Cross Hurrican Fund.

Visitation is today, until 9 p.m., with the family present from 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.
