NORTH PLATTE -- The McCook High School junior varsity football team rolled to a 54-6 victory over the North Platte sophomores at North Platte Monday.

Because of a mix-up, the results were misplaced.

The Bison (3-0) led at halftime 49-6.

Craig Fritz scored on four touchdown runs, Nate Berry added a TD run and Austin Gesselman caught a TD pass from Josh Cherry, who kicked several PATs.

North Platte scored in the second quarter.

The Bison host the North Platte JV at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

blasts Holdrege

The McCook High School freshmen football team blasted Holdrege 42-7 at Weiland Field Thursday night.

The Bison led 26-0 at halftime.

In the first quarter, McCook's Sam Frazier scoredon a 1-yard touchdown run and Mitch Green added a 6-yard TD run. The PATs failed after both scores.

In the second quarter, quarterback Justin Spector connected with Cory Gaston on a 49-yard TD pass and Gaston returned an interception 45 yards for another score. Green scored on a PAT run.

In the third quarter, Green scored on a 1-yard TD run and Michael Knott added the 2-point conversion.

Knott capped the scoringwith a 4-yard TD run in the fourth quarter and added the PAT run.

Holdrege prevented the shutout with a 1-yard run late in the fourth quarter and kicked the extra point.

"This was an important win for us because Holdrege is a future district team," said McCook freshmen football coach Bill Beckenhauer. "We had some kids come up with big plays. Offensively, we're getting better."

The Bison ninth graders play at Lexington next Thursday.

posts 2 shutouts

to open season

NORTON, Kan. -- The McCook Junior High School eighth grade football A and B football teams posted shutouts Thursday in their season-openers at Norton, Kan.

The A team blanked the Bluejays 18-0 and the B team won 22-0.

In the A team game, Matt Berry threw two touchdown passes -- 10 yards to Tyler Ecker in the first quarter and 15 yards to Nate Gleason in the second quarter.

The Bison added 2-point conversions from Zach Wieser run) and Aaron Ruppert (pass).

In the third quarter, Dillon Goltl tackled a Norton running back in the end zone for a safety.

Ecker and Ryan Hardin had interceptions and Taylor Garcia and Tyrone Sellers recovered fumbles.

"This was another very good game for the defense," said McCook eighth grade football coach Steve Nicholson. "Norton got close to the goal line a few times, but the guys made some crucial stops to keep them from scoring. Our offense, we did did a good job of running which set ourpassing game."

In the B team game, McCook quarterback Mike Grabowski hooked up with receiver Brady Chancellor for TD passes of 60 and 30 yards. In the fourth quarterm Jeff Lorentz ran 80 yards for a TD.

Keenan Brown and Trent Cook added 2-point conversion runs. Ecker intercepted two passes.

"It was a nice effort for the first game for the guys," Nicholson said. "The defense played very well. On offense we sputtered, but we were able to make some big plays happen to help us control the game."

The Bison eighth graders host Chase County-Imperial at 4:30 p.m. next Thursday (Sept. 30) at Weiland Field.
