IMPERIAL -- Margaret M. Trautman, 85, died Friday (Sept. 17, 2004) at Chase County Hospital in Imperial.
She was born Nov. 29, 1918, to Carl and Marie (Kurtenbach) Smith in Eskridge, Kan. She moved with her family to Imperial and attended Imperial Grade School. She graduate from Imperial High School in 1938.
On June 14, 1939, she married Harry Trautman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imperial. The couple were involved with a grocery business for many years before owning Trautman's Drive Inn from the 1950's to the 1970's. She continued to work there after it sold to Dr. Burns Bowers and later when it was sold again. She also worked in Norman and Peterson Appliances, Adams-Einspahr Drug and Adams Drug. She retired in 1989.
She was a member of the St. Patrick's Altar Society and was a volunteer with the Imperial Community Center. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents; step-father, Elmer Archer; sister, Minnie Conarty; brother, Vernon Smith; and sisters, Erma Jones and Helen Claney.
Survivors include two sisters, Nonie Hamel of Imperial and Trudy Nelson of McCook; and brother-in-law, Jack Claney of Imperial.
Mass of Christian burial is Tuesday, 10 a.m. (MDT), at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Pawloski officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Rosary will be today, 7 p.m. (MDT).
Visitation is today, 2-6 p.m. (MDT), at Liewer Funeral Home.
Memorials can be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or the Imperial Community Center.
