two arrested on suspected meth lab

DANBURY -- Two Danbury residents were charged Saturday morning with possessing a key ingredient needed to make the illegal drug methamphetamine following an early morning search of a home across the alley west of the community's city park.

Sheriff's Lt. Alan Kotschwar said this morning the two -- a 33-year-old male and a 37-year-old female -- are charged with illegal possession of anhydrous ammonia. Their names will be available after their arraignment in Red Willow County court Sept. 7.

Kotschwar declined to release the names of the two. He said the investigation continues and more charges are pending.

Kotschwar said the sheriff's department had received calls about the possibility of the manufacture of meth at that location, and that two officers felt an "active cook" was taking place about 2 a.m., Saturday morning.

Six officers served a search warrant about 5 a.m., Kotschwar said. "It was not an active cook at the time (of the arrest)," he said, "yet, a cook had taken place, possibly within hours. They still had anhydrous in an insulated water jug."

Kotschwar said the two may have just completed a cook at 2 a.m.

The two were issued summonses to appear in court in September and released.
