OBERLIN -- Ray E. Garver, 86, died Saturday (July 31, 2004) in Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born June 23, 1918, to Frank and Jesse (Garver) Wilson in Oberlin. He was raised in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School. He was in the Army during World War II.
On Dec. 20, 1950, he married Jacquetta Dean. She preceded him in death.
On Dec. 15, 1973, he married Rita Shuler. He was a truck driver.
He was a member of the United Church of Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jacquetta in 1970; brother, Virgil Garver; and sister, Mary McDougal.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Garver of Oberlin; four step sons, Bob Shuler and wife, JoAnn of Oberlin, David Shuler and wife, LaKen of Grand Junction, Colo., Donald Shuler and wife, Wanda of Belleville, Kan., and Ronald Shuler of Salina; two daughters, Debra Garver of Overland Park, Kan., and Jessica Howell and husband, Ed of Hays, Kan.; brother, Rex Garver of Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Peggy May of Decatur, Ga., and Mamie Unger of Oberlin; one grandchild; ten step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Oberlin Cemetery with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
