COLORADO -- Cheryl Ann Wilkens, 55, died Wednesday (July 7, 2004) in Colorado.
She was born July 9, 1948, in Stratton. She lived in Northwest Kansas and moved in 1981 to Colorado Springs, Colo. She graduated from Central Business College in 1967.
On June 1, 1968, she married Larry Wilkens. She was partner with her husband in various businesses.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kermit Downing; step-father, Donald Schwerdt; and grandparents, Joseph and Marie Vachuta and Dan and Ethel Downing.
Survivors include her husband, Larry of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her daughters, Renee Werner and husband, Matt of Colorado Springs and Cherie Barrett and husband, Tom of Denver, Colo.; mother, Mary Schwerdt of McDonald; brothers, Doug Downing of McDonald and Greg Downing of Stratton; sister, Jeanette Burkhalter of Bird City; and two grandchildren.
A local Mass of Christian burial is Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratton with the Rev. Greg Pawloski officiating.
Another Mass of Christian burial is July 24, 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A rosary will be recited Friday, 7 p.m., at the church in Stratton.
Memorials may be given to the Nutritional Research and Educational Foundation.
