Seventy-year-old Ned Little of Fort Lupton, Colo., and his team of blue roan mares pull into Benkelman Saturday about noon. Little grew up on a farm 21 miles northwest of Benkelman, and said that for years he's wanted to return to the home place on horseback. Back problems couldn't stop that dream; they just changed his means of transportation to a team of horses and a wagon. Ned left Fort Lupton July 1, and met his sisters, June Stamm, 85, and Ernestine Smith, 79 1/2, in Benkelman 10 days later. He was the guest at a barbecue for family and friends Saturday night at the rural Benkelman farm/ranch home of his niece, Cindy Smith, and her husband, Bill. On Sunday, Ned loaded up his horses and wagon and returned to Colorado. (Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Daily Gazette)
