Area swimmers compete at Indianola
INDIANOLA -- Swimmers from Benkelman (BE), Bird City (BI), Imperial (IM), Indianola (IN) and McCook (MC) all gathered at the Indianola pool on Tuesday evening.
The meet was originally scheduled for the previous Saturday, but was postponed due to weather.
The competition was fierce, as many races had close finishes.
In the girls 9 and 10 girls 50 free, Michaela Lutz of Benkelman beat Candace Malleck of Indianola by one hundredth of a second.
In the boys 9 and 10 50 free, six tenths of a second separated first place winner Mitchell Collicott of Benkelman from Ethan Young of Bird City.
The girls 11 and 12 50 fly proved to be another tight one.
Kayla Fahrenbruch of McCook edged out April Lutz of Benkelman by four-tenths of a second, giving Kayla the first place finish.
Less than a second separated Natalie Kent of Benkelman from Shelby Malleck in the 8 and Under girls 25 breaststroke.
Candace Malleck came back in the girls 9 and 10 25 breast to beat April Bernard of Imperial by less than two tenths.
Team totals were Benkelman 382 points, Bird City 133, Imperial 252, Indianola 180 and McCook 180.
Next up for the teams on Saturday.
Benkelman and Imperial go to Benkelman. Indianola goes to Gothenburg. Bird City and McCook go to Atwood.
