Seniors, Juniors split at Cozad

COZAD -- The McCook National Bank Seniors American Legion baseball team rebounded from a tough weekend to beat Cozad 3-2 Tuesday night at Cozad.

The First Central Bank Juniors team lost 9-8 Tuesday night at Cozad. The Juniors' record is 15-5.

The Seniors (15-13), who posted a 1-3 record at the North Platte Tournament Saturday and Sunday, received a strong pitching performance from Mason Pohl, who tossed a complete game three-hitter. He struck out seven and walked two. He hit three batters, but allowed just two earned runs.

Jeff Holthus singled twice, doubled, drove in one run and scored two runs to lead the Seniors' offense. Mark Rogers, Sean Cappel and Derick Lorentz picked McCook's other hits. Lorentz singled in a run.

McCook scored two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. Cozad scored its run in the bottom of the first.

At the North Platte Tournament, the Seniors lost to North Platte 7-4, Colby 5-4 and Ogallala 6-3. The losing pitchers were Jason Eder, Ryan Ball and Lorentz.

MNB defeated Alliance 13-1. Matt Beckenhauer was the winning pitcher.

Jared Muehlenkamp belted a three-run homer and a two-run single. Ross Jones went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Eder went 2-for-4. Jayce Dueland scored three runs. Pohl tripled and scored two runs.

Holthus homered and doubled in the Ogallala game. Muehlenkamp and Eder each had two hits.

Dueland had a two-run single in the Colby game. Lorentz had two hits.

Muehlenkamp had two doubles in the North Platte game. Holthus also had two hits.
