In praise of the one we love

The other night I ran into an old and trusted friend of mine who I haven't seen in almost two years. The wonderful thing about true friendship is the warm feeling one gets on the inside when you see someone you genuinely care for and you know the feeling is mutual. He and I trust and respect one another and, unfortunately, there aren't many people we can say that about anymore. I had an-other friend like that when I was a police officer in Tulsa. He and I worked adjoining districts so I would always back him up on his calls and he would do the same for me. We would have walked through burning buildings for each other and we both knew that without having to say it. Our wives were best friends as well and so we spent a lot of time with each other, both on and off duty. I trusted him with my life as he did me. This friend from Hayes Center falls into the same category.
