FREMONT -- Katherine Brown, 91, died Monday (June 7, 2004) at Nye Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fremont.

She was born June 6, 1913, to Frederick and Katherine (Miller) Porter in Piniele, Mont. She grew up in Stratton and attended school there. She took courses from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

He husband, Jack Shotbolt died in 1953. She was a housemother at the Masonic Easter Star Home for Children in Fremont and worked in the placement office of UNL.

In 1960, she married Alan Brown. In 2000, she moved to Fremont to live in Nye Courte and recently became president of Nye Pointe.

She was worthy matron in 1946 of Ola Chapter 317 Order of Eastern Star in Stratton. She served in the star point office of Grand Ruth in the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star during the years of 1952-53. In the years of 1946-1948, she was appointed grand representative of Oklahoma in Nebraska and she served a grand session as a grand page. She was a member of the Lincoln Artist Guild and had been a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack; her second husband, Alan in 1995; her parents; a grandson, Tommy; two brothers, Alvin and Raymond; and sister, Clara Burks.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry and wife, Georgia Shotbolt of California and Ken and wife, Sharon Shotbolt of Fremont; a brother, William Porter of Washington; one grandson; three step-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Stratton.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of the arrangements.
