Edmond Oscar Lauer died Wednesday (June 2, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. He was 99 years old.

He was born April 8, 1905, one of 16 children, to Edward and Magdaline (Volmer) Lauer at Aurora. The family later moved to Merna where he farmed with his father and brothers.

He came to McCook looking for work, met and married Martha Tellie Wall on March 8, 1935. To this union three children were born; daughters, Velma & Geraldine and one son, Larry. Martha preceded him in death in December of 1947.

On March 25, 1952, he married Emilie Beck Baumgartner. She had a son Alex Baumgartner. Ed and Emilie then had a son, Victor. They farmed until 1961, when he rented his farm land. Emilie preceded him in death in 1981.

He then resided with his son, Victor, and wife for four years, later he lived with his daughter, Velma and husband for four years and later in his own home for four years until skilled care was necessary. At that time he moved to Willow Ridge and the last five and a half years he lived at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was respected and loved deeply by his children and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wives Martha and Emilie; stepson, Alex Baumgartner; and one grandchild, Michelle Marie Kircher; five brothers, Albert, Gus, Archie, Bill and John; sister, Victoria Wagner and two sisters in infancy.

Survivors include two daughters, Velma Kircher and husband, Harold "Bud" of McCook and Geraldine Benjamin of Funk; two sons, Larry and wife, Barbara of McCook and Victor and wife, Sandy of Aztex, N.M.; three brothers, Fred and wife, Marie of California, Herbert and wife, Velma of McCook and Karl and wife, Alvina of Broken Bow; two sisters, Nettie Kilmer of Fremont and Leona Fogle of Hanford, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Pauline Lauer of North Platte and Rema Lauer of Lush, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name.
