GRAND ISLAND -- The McCook Rebels 18 and under fastpitch softball team captured the Grand Island Invitational Saturday and Sunday with a 4-1 record.

"We had a real good weekend playing mostly Class A and Class B teams," said McCook coach Earl Roberts.

"The girls had a strong defensively played weekend, allowing us to play some girls out of their normal positions to cover minor injuiries from Saturday's play.

"Some of the strong highlights of the weekend were behind the plate with Kayla Koetter, Kim Serbousek and Kayla Wilson all doing a great job.

"Hitting, the girls over the weekend had 56 hits scoring 37 runs.

"Natalie Brooks and Stephanie Douglas combined pitching duties, striking out 49 batters, walking six, and giving up 17 hits over the six games played."

The Rebels' record is 6-1 entering Tuesday's doubleheader against two North Platte teams.

Results were not available as of Wednesday morning.

On Saturday, the Rebels run-ruled a Grand Island team in the fourth inning.

Lindsey Lawson had a triple base hit, Kori Collins had a double, Kim Serbousek and Jillian Bryant had three hits.

The Rebels collected 18 hits and the girls committed no defensive errors.

Stephanie Douglas and Natalie Brooks shared the pitching duties with a no-hitter, striking out nine and walking none.

In the second game the girls scored another shutout against the class B 16 & Under Norfolk Golden Girls.

Lindsey Lawson had a double and a single, Andrea Soden, Kayla Wilson each doubled, and Jillian Bryant had two singles.

The Rebels totaled nine hits and made no errors.

Stephanie Douglas pitched seven innings for a no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one.

The last game of the day, the girls faced Norfolk's 16 and Under Class A team and fell short 4-0.

Stephanie Douglas pitched the six innings striking out five, walking one, and giving up five hits.

Sunday started out with the first tiebreaaker game of the day with Kayla Wilson batting in Kayla Koetter for the winning run.

Andrea Soden doubled.

Lindsey Lawson, Kim Serbousek, Kala Smalley and Kayla Wilson each had singles for a team total of five hits.

Stephanie Douglas pitched eight innings, striking out 10, walking two and giving up three hits.

The team had two errors.

The second game of the day also went eight innings with a tie breaker ending.

Kala Smalley scored the winning run on Jillian Bryant's hit. Smalley went 4-for-4 and Kim Serbousek had 2 singles for a team total of 11 hits.

Stephanie Douglas and Natalie Brooks shared pitching duties, striking out 11, walking two and giving up four hits.

In the championship game, the Rebel girls scored 13 hits in a come from behind win.

After Columbus scored three runs in the first inning, the girls settled down and played good defense.

Kim Serbousek had three hits, Jillian Bryant, Kori Collins and Kala Smalley each had two singles.

Stephanie Douglas pitched seven innings, striking out two, walking none and giving up five hits.
