Darrell Eugene Dow, 66, of Hayes Center died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 18, 1937, in Burr Oak, Kan., to Lyle Merritt and Nellie Lucile (Simpson) Dow.

He graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1955.

On June 17, 1958, he married Judith A. Musholt at Fort Bragg, Calif.

He was employed as a telegrapher for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. In 1961, they moved to Nebraska where he farmed and worked for hay mills in Holdrege and Orleans. In 1986. the couple moved to Hayes Center where Darrell worked for Hayes County Alfalfa and Southwest Feeders.

Darrell enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid gardener who shared his produce with family and friends. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lyle and Nellie Dow; and one brother, Melvin Dow.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Lyle of Orleans, Tom (Tammy) of Hayes Center: daughters, Dee (Danny) Wahlgren of Forks, Wash., Lorri (Mike) Bantam of Hebron, Melissa (David) Eilers of Overton and Rose (Richard) Scott of McCook; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters and in-laws, Danola (Gilbert) Katzberg of Prosser, Oleta (Roy) Niimi of Honolulu, Hawaii, Cora (George) Uden of Juniata and Inge Dow of Juniata.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hayes Center Union Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Burial will be in the Orleans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials are being accepted in his name.

Visitation is today 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
