BENKELMAN -- Adalaide "Addie" Pursley, 81, died Thursday (May 13, 2004) at the K.C. Stout Assisted Living Center at Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.
She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Cheyenne County to Will and Mary (Cavanaugh) Syme and attended Riverside country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Cheyenne County High School in 1941. She attended commercial school in Denver, Colo.
On Aug. 26, 1945, she married Everett E. Pursley in St. Francis. After moving to Benkelman, she began working for JC Penney and the City of Benkelman. In May 1955, she began her career as a legal secretary at the Owens Law Office. She retired in 1987 after 32 years of service.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Benkelman and was active in many church activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and May Syme; her husband, Everett in 1969; and one brother, John in 1997.
Survivors include her daughters, Arlene Stute and husband, Larry, Sharon O'Brien and husband, Bill of Benkelman; two sisters, Margaret Payne of Nevada, Mo., and Barbara Oshel of Wellsville, Kan.; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Forch Funeral Chapel with Marcine Farmer, PMA, officiating. Interment will be in the Benkelman Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday, 1-7 p.m., at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman.
Memorials may be given in her name to the United Presbyterian Church or Dundy County Hospital Foundation.
