ATWOOD -- Mildred Elaine Knapp, 90, died Thursday (May 13, 2004) at Atwood Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
She was born Aug. 9, 1913, to Chester and Ethel (Beeson) Phipps. She attended school in McDonald and graduated from McDonald Rural High School in 1932.
On Aug. 23, 1933, she married Charles Knapp in Stockville. She was a homemaker and worked as a cook for the McDonald schools for 13 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; her brother, Chet; and sister, Ruth Howard.
Survivors include four sons, Doran and wife, Glenda of Hays, Kan., James and wife, Patti of Wakeeney, Kan., Timothy and wife, Janice of Atwood and Thomas and wife, Rene of Olathe, Kan.; two daughters, Mary Stephens and husband, John of Vancouver, Wash., and Gay Kruse and husband, Merlin of Sheridan, Wyo.; one sister, Bessie Madsen of Denver, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Zelda Knapp of McDonald, Rena Pickett of St. Francis and Anna Ewing of St. Francis; one brother-in-law, Glenn Howard of Goodland, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. Interment will be in Grace Cemetery in McDonald.
Visitation is Saturday, 12-9 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood and after 11 a.m., Monday at the church.
Memorials can be given for the Atwood Good Samaritan Center and left at the funeral home.
