Reserve unit placed on alert

Friday, May 14, 2004

The 1013th U.S. Army Reserve Quartermaster Co. of McCook and North Platte has been placed on alert, and can be mobilized at any time during the next 90 days.

Jerry Chambers, unit administrator of the McCook company, declined this morning to release information about the alert, although he did say that, at this time, soldiers of the 1013th who returned last month from a year's stay in Iraq would not be part of this possible deployment.

Sgt. Eric Donat of the North Platte unit said the alert means no one in the company can transfer to another company for 90 days. Donat said the soldiers do not know where they would be sent if they are deployed.

The reservists are trained in laundry, shower and clothing renovation. Their jobs, if deployed, would include light textile renovation, such as repairing tops of vehicles and fixing tents, canvas and uniforms. The reservists also set up showers close to combat areas.

Twenty-one soldiers of the 1013th were deployed in January, 2003 and served in Iraq and Kuwait. They returned in April. Sixty-six soldiers of the 1013th were mobilized in February 2003 and sent in March to Camp Scorpion, Prince Hassan Air Base, Jordan. They returned in July.
