Marguerite D. Hansen, 89, of Curtis, died May 5, 2004, at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis. She was born July 24, 1914, to Andrew H. and Ella Nelsen Sowle in Lincoln County. She moved to Redding, Calif., until she was 11 years of age. She moved back to Snell Canyon Government Pocket in Lincoln County, until her marriage.

On Feb. 10, 1934, she married Leslie Jens Hansen at McCook. After marriage they lived on the John Hansen Homestead in Lincoln County. She moved into Curtis Feb. 10, 1990, and moved to Hillside Estates in Curtis in 2003.

Marguerite completed her GED in 1992 at 78 years of age.

She was a member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church for many years until it burned in 1978, then she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the ALCW and a Sunday School Teacher at Ebenezer, a member of the extension club, a school board member of District 76, and a 4-H Leader.

Survivors include daughter, Norma Lee (Dennis) Bartlett of Harvard; three sons, Thorval (Artis) Hansen of Burwell, Harley (Kathy) Hansen of Moorefield, Marvin (Bee) Hansen of Oberlin; one son-in-law, Judd Lenz of Curtis; one sister-in-law, Edna Sowle of Seattle, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Danyel (Trevor) Roberts of Harvard and Kelly (Dan) Davis of Hastings; eight step-great-grandchildren; step-great-great-granddaughter; numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leslie, (September 15, 1974); daughter, Ella L. Lenz; great grandson Landon Dodson; brother Arthur; sister Vera and brother-in-law Roy St. Clair.

Funeral services are Saturday, May 8, 2004, 2 p.m., at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Curtis, with Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Burial is in the Curtis Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, 1-9 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

Memorials may be given to the St. John's Lutheran Church or to Hillside Estates in Curtis.
