Jewel Troy Kief died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 97.
She was born Feb. 17, 1907, in Hartville, Mo., the daughter of the late James Bradley and Addie (Rose) Fletcher. Her family moved to Arapahoe where she graduated from high school.
On Feb. 14, 1925, she married Frederick Kief in Norton, Kan.
Jewel and Fred farmed all their lives in Gosper and Dawson Counties, retiring to a small farm near Arapahoe in 1964. In 1981, she moved to McCook to be near her family.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Fred, in 1981; son, Elsworth, in 1944; son-in-law, Carl Hester, in 1975; and granddaughter, Beverly Hester, in 1998.
Jewel is survived by her daughter, Jane Hester; granddaughter, Karla Harris and husband, Gary; great-grandchildren, Justin and wife, Kaylynn Harris and Jamie Harris and fiance, Danny Stitt; great-great-grandsons, Wyatt and Lane Harris, all of McCook; and relatives and friends.
Graveside services are 3 p.m., today at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
