Atwood's Fikan, Oberlin's Mondero finish in top 10 at Hoxie golf meet
HOXIE, Kan. -- Atwood's Andy Fikan placed third and Oberlin's Matt Mondero was fourth at the Hoxie Invitational golf tournament Tuesday.
Hill City's Carter Atkins claimed first-place medalist honors with a 76, edging out Colby's Chris Finley and Fikan, who fired 77s.
Finley defeated Fikan in a playoff for second place.
Mondero was alone in fourth place with a 78.
Firing 81s were Oakley's Carl Dumler, Hoxie's Jeff Cameron and Grinnell's Tony Struckoff.
Shooting 82s were Grinnell's Tanner Tholen, Goodland's Nathan Linen and Hill City's Tanner Long.
Grinnell and Colby both fired 336 to lead the team scoring, but Grinnell won the title because its fifth-best score was better than the Eagles' fifth-best effort.
Goodland was third at 338, followed by Hoxie and Atwood at 340, Hill City 345, Wakeeney-Trego 355, Oakley 355, Oberlin 358, Stockton 358, Quinter 382 and Sharon Springs 401.
Oberlin's Jonathan Richards just missed medaling with an 84. Jobey Black shot a 96.
Three Red Devils fired 100s -- Breck Simonsson, Jace Robinson and Nolan May.
Atwood and Oberlin will compete at the Atwood Invitational Saturday.
Oberlin competes in the Thomas More Prep-Marian Invitational at Hays Monday.
