KEARNEY -- LaVeda "Maxine" Meissner, 75, died Monday (April 19, 2004) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Stockville to Delva DeWayne and Wilma Dee (Blake) Smith.

On June 14, 1946, she married Robert Simmerman Meissner in Oberlin, Kan. They made their home south of McCook. To this union one daughter, Marilyn, was born.

Maxine worked for TRW, Gibson's and was head of housekeeping for Community Hospital. She also did baby-sitting for her great-niece and nephews.

She was residing at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on Aug. 8, 2001; one sister, Geraldine Gonzales; and infant brother, Delva.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn and husband, Joe Mavigliano of McCook; brother, Donald Smith and wife, Karen of Aurora, Colo.; sister, Arlene and husband, Wayne Gillen of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may sign her book at the funeral home.
