OBERLIN -- Hattie E. Olson, 95, died Monday (April 12, 2004) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was born June 2, 1908, to Walther and Eleanora Louise (Stoeckel) Schmidt in Rawlins County. She was raised on a farm west of Achilles, Kan., in Rawlins County. She attended Rawlins County District 37 school and graduated from Atwood High School in 1927. She also took a normal training course.

On May 18, 1929, she married Robert Lee Olson in Wray, Colo. The couple farmed in the Midway Community of Rawlins County. She moved to Oberlin in 1955. She was a homemaker and worked for Claar's Clothing Store in Oberlin for 23 years.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the Covenant Women, Herndon VFW Auxiliary, Garden Club and volunteered for Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; one brother, Henry Schmidt; sister, Martha Schmidt; and granddaughter, Julie Olson Witt.

Survivors include three sons, Keith and wife, Mary Lou Olson of Herndon, Robert W. and wife, Sally Olson of Ludell and Dale L. Olson of Pasco, Wash.; one daughter, Maxine and husband, William Peebles of Denver, Colo.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Evangelical Covenant Church of Oberlin. Interment will be in Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin and Friday, after 8 a.m., until service time at the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to Evangelical Covenant Church.
